Preview: Scunthorpe United vs Warrington Town

On Saturday, Warrington Town embark on one of the biggest games in the club’s history as they make the trip to ex-Football League side Scunthorpe United in the National League North.

It will the second of three successive away games for the Yellows, who left it late to snatch a point away at Darlington on Tuesday night, thanks to an emphatic 90th minute strike from Connor Woods.

Their upcoming opponents, Scunthorpe, have been in fine form. A run of six straight home wins at Glanford Park – with 18 goals scored and just one conceded during that time – has left them second in the league table, a point adrift of current leaders Tamworth.

Below, we’ve compiled everything you need to know ahead of the fixture.

Andre Wisdom will be assessed ahead of Saturday after being forced off in midweek with a suspected hamstring injury.

Fellow centre-back Peter Clarke will also be monitored ahead of the trip to Glanford Park.

Evan Gumbs, Matty McDonald, Jay Harris and Jordan Buckley all remain unavailable.

Mark Beesley preview

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley says Saturday should be an occasion to savour as he prepares to take charge of the club for the 100th time.

However, he has warned his players not to let the magnitude of the occasion get to them.

“It’s a game that everyone should look forward. We’ve worked hard over the last two years to get here,” he said.

“To go and play at Scunthorpe in a league game is what we’ve been after. The supporters and people who put countless hours in should go and enjoy the day – win, lose or draw.

“For us, it’s a game of football, 11v11. We’ve got to dust ourselves down [after Tuesday night], get ourselves ready and get a plan to go and play Scunthorpe.”
