Preview: Peterborough Sports vs Warrington Town

After a couple of close defeats at home, Warrington Town travel down south to Peterborough to take on Peterborough Sports, kicking off a hectic week of action as the Easter weekend draws near.

With this being a rearranged fixture due to Town’s opponents reaching the FA Trophy quarter-finals earlier this month, the schedule only gets tougher for Mark Beesley’s side ahead of the trip to Scarborough Athletic on Good Friday.

Warrington will be looking to avenge a narrow 1-0 defeat when the two sides met at Cantilever Park in October, with Hayden Cann getting the only goal.

Cann has since left Peterborough for a loan spell in Ireland with Irish Premier Division side Drogheda United, so a new hero will be needed if either side is to leave with all three points.

Team news

Skipper Josh Amis continues to play through the pain barrier, his knee heavily iced after he was brought off in the second half on Saturday.

Preston loanee Kacper Pasiek was forced to sit out on Saturday after turning an ankle in training, while Matt Grivosti is still recovering from his knock which meant he was only on the bench at the weekend as a last resort.

Someone who made his debut from the bench against Scunthorpe was exciting attacking midfielder Dubem Eze. The Norwich loanee will hope to make his full debut in Peterborough.

Centre-back Tom Hannigan will hope to return to proceedings tonight after an illness.

Midfielder Jay Harris awaits a three-match ban having been sent off last time out vs Scunthorpe, but will be available tonight and for Good Friday’s trip to Scarborough due to the seven-day suspension rule.

Mark Beesley preview

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley acknowledged that his side wasn’t at their best during Saturday’s defeat, however with injuries ramping up towards the end of the season, he gives credit that his side is dealing with it the best they can.

The Yellows come into this fixture with great away form, winning four of their six league games away from Cantilever Park in 2024, but the Town boss accepts that the trip to Peterborough will be difficult.

“It’s going to be really tough as we’ve got injuries from today,” Beesley said after the Scunthorpe game.

“Josh Amis probably shouldn’t have played and it’s the same with Andy White, and Tom Hannigan has been sick.

“We’re in a really good league and every game is a tough one. [Injuries] are things we have to cope with, so we have to dust ourselves down and be ready for Tuesday.”
