Preview: FC United of Manchester vs Warrington Town

Warrington Town will look to consolidate their play-off position this weekend when they visit FC United of Manchester in the Northern Premier League.

Following last week’s postponement against Whitby Town, it means Saturday’s trip to Broadhurst Park will be the Yellows’ fourth consecutive away game. 

FC United know that a win will see them leapfrog the Yellows and move into the play-offs, while Mark Beesley’s side could climb as high as third, should the three points go their way.  

Team news

It is hoped that defender Tom Hannigan will be available for selection, having picked up an injury at Atherton Collieries earlier this month. 

Aside from that, there are no fresh injury concerns for the Yellows.

Mark Beesley preview

Manager Mark Beesley has challenged his players to impose their style on FC United of Manchester when the two sides meet this weekend. 

Town will also be keen to avenge the 1-0 defeat they suffered at Cantilever Park in the reverse fixture back in September.

“It’s a game you always look forward to because there’s always a big crowd there and the pitch is decent,” Beesley said.

“If you don’t look forward to playing there, you shouldn’t be playing because it’s one of the best stadiums in our league, if not the best. 

“They’re a really good team that are well coached and play good football. In Regan Linney, they’ve probably got the best striker in the league and I think they’ll be right up there come the end of the season.

“It’s a good test for us to see if we can impose our style on them. It’s an exciting game and we’re looking forward to it.”

Andy White preview

Warrington Town left-back Andy White says the Yellows must be on top of their game if they want to extend their recent unbeaten run.

The Yellows have won three and drawn five of their last eight league matches, and such form has seen them return to the play-off places.

“These are the games that you look forward to the most because when there is a big crowd there the atmosphere is much better,” White said.

“Going away to FC United – what more motivation do you want than going to play in front of their fans? Hopefully we can silence them.”
