Preview: Cleethorpes Town vs Warrington Town

Warrington Town gear up for their first away trip of 2026 this Saturday, as they make the journey to Cleethorpes Town in the Northern Premier League.

The Yellows come into this fixture on the back of a 1-1 result against Leek Town on New Year's Day, their third consecutive draw in the league.

This weekend, they make the 272-mile round trip to Lincolnshire to face Cleethorpes Town. The two sides met on the opening day of the 2025/26 season, with neither side able to break the 0-0 stalemate at the Cal.Delivery Stadium.

PLEASE NOTE: The club has been informed that there will be a pitch inspection at 9am to assess possible waterlogging of the pitch.

Below, we've compiled everything you need to know ahead of the fixture.

Team news

Liam Brazier’s loan deal from Port Vale has been extended for a further month, though he shouldn’t be required to play up front through the middle as he did on New Year’s Day with Max Thompson and Joe Rodwell-Grant back available for selection.

Paul Carden preview

Having welcomed two of his summer signings back into the fold at long last, Paul Carden is now looking for Scott Butler and Kallan Murphy to give him the right kind of selection headache.

Prior to making substitute appearances during the 1-1 draw with Leek Town on New Year’s Day, neither defender Butler or striker Murphy had featured since August having had their starts to life in WA4 wrecked by injury – a broken foot and damaged ankle ligaments respectively.

Their arrival was timely given Carden had been denied the services of key attacking duo Joe Rodwell-Grant and Max Thompson for the game, with both having fallen victim to an illness that has affected several squad members.

And while they could not prevent Town from recording a third successive draw, Carden now hopes Butler and Murphy can give the squad a boost as they prepare for a trip to Cleethorpes Town on January 10.

"They’re two really good players to have," the Town boss said.

"We’ve bemoaned them being missing for such a long period of time.

"Kal probably played 10 minutes more than I would have liked and Scott probably played 10 minutes less, but these things are never ideal.

"Evan Gumbs has come back in and not missed a minute having been out for 10 or 11 months. There will come a time where we’ll have to leave him out and we haven’t been able to.

"Now with Scott, we’ve got that strength and he can play a few different positions.

"Kal gives us a focal point which we haven’t had much of – he needs to work on his fitness and that will only really come through playing matches.

"They’ll both have to keep doing what they’re doing away from the place and building themselves up to being ready to impact our starting XI, which is what they’re here for. It certainly gives us good options."
