Mixed emotions for Mark Beesley after Matlock stalemate

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley says there are areas for his side to improve upon after they extended their unbeaten run to 12 matches with a goalless draw at Matlock Town. 

Despite enjoying the best of the contest, the Yellows were unable to find a way past Gladiators goalkeeper Saul Deeney.

Jordan Buckley – brought on early in proceedings after an injury to captain Josh Amis – came closest to scoring for the visitors but was denied on two separate occasions by Deeney. 

Speaking post-match, Beesley said: “We’ve had three clean sheets in a week, which is really pleasing.

“I think we were the dominant team after the first 20 minutes, but we didn’t do enough to work their keeper. 

“We probably weren’t at our best from set-pieces, so it’s something we need to work on.

“I said to the lads, it’s days like today where you’ve got to be really clinical and ruthless when you’re only getting one chance.

“They put an extra centre-half on to get the point, so that tells you how the story went. 

“From our point of view, we’ve got seven points in a week, which isn’t bad.”

Beesley confirmed after the game that Josh Amis’ early withdrawal at the Proctor Cars Stadium was due to a back spasm. 

One player who didn’t feature on Saturday, Andy White, is expected to return for the Yellows’ league clash with Guiseley next weekend.
