Matty Grivosti excited by challenge of helping Yellows’ promotion push

Warrington Town forward Matty Grivosti says the prospect of helping the club to promotion during his first season is one he is really excited by.

The youngster was signed ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, having arrived at Cantilever Park via the Fowler Education Football Academy (FEFA).

Saturday’s 3-0 victory at Stalybridge Celtic saw the Yellows strengthen their grip on fifth place in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division, with Grivosti marking his return to the starting XI with a goal in either half.

Fellow winger Luke Duffy also found himself on the scoresheet as Mark Beesley’s side bounced back to winning ways ahead of a tough game against in-form Ashton United at Cantilever Park this weekend.

The fight for the play-off spots continues to intensify with eight games remaining, but Grivosti is confident his side can deal with the pressure and ensure their destiny remains in their own hands.

“It was nice to be back in the starting line-up [last weekend],” he said. “We have a really strong squad and the quality in every position is great.

“Everyone’s pushing each other to keep the standards high and fight for their place, so when you get your chance you want to take it and give everything you’ve got.

“[Against Stalybridge] we had to change the way we wanted to play slightly. We’ve been playing some good football but we knew the pitch wouldn’t really allow that, so it was all about adapting, which the lads did really well.”

Discussing the club’s promotion hopes, he added: “It’s an exciting challenge. There are teams close behind pushing us, but we know what we have to do.

“I’m enjoying the challenge, and it would be a real achievement to reach the play-offs and get promoted in my first season, which is obviously our goal. It’s definitely possible with the squad we have.”

It has been a successful first campaign at the Yellows for Grivosti, who has netted nine times in 32 appearances in all competitions.

Ahead of Town’s return to Cantilever Park this weekend, he stressed the importance of making full use of home advantage during what could be a crucial end-of-season run-in.

“Those home games will be massive. Ashton are on a good run so it will be a difficult game, but we know our job.

“To get back to our pitch with our fans behind us will be important, and we know how much they want us to win.

“Now it’s our job to show what we can do on the pitch.”
