Matt Grivosti: Curzon will be a real challenge

Warrington Town forward Matt Grivosti believes Saturday’s trip to Curzon Ashton will be a challenging encounter for the Yellows squad.

Town come into the game looking to stretch their unbeaten run to six matches in the National League North after last Saturday’s goalless draw at home to Boston United.

However, they will visit a Curzon side that have already beaten the Yellows in league and cup at Cantilever Park this season and sit five points above them in the league table.

Curzon currently occupy one of the play-off spots and Grivosti – who started both of their previous outings against them this season but will be suspended on Saturday after being shown a straight red card last time out against Boston – says the players are aware of the task facing them this weekend.

He said: “Curzon are a good team. They have quality players who work hard and are really difficult to beat.

“It’s going to be a real challenge to break them down and stop the threat that they pose, but I believe we will learn from the previous games and show our quality.

“I’m disappointed not to be playing but I have full faith in the lads to get a result. I think we’ve shown this season how resilient this squad is and what we can do in tough circumstances.

“We believe our squad on the day can go head-to-head with anyone in this league and get results as well as showing good performances, so the 11 plus subs that do play will give everything to get the job done.”

Town come into the weekend two points off the 50 mark, which has been earmarked by many as the theoretical guarantee of safety in the National League North.

Nevertheless, Grivosti says the squad must continue to take things a game at a time – despite admitting that it is tempting to continue looking up rather than down.

“I think we have taken it game by game. We’ve put a few results together in a row, and now the aim is to keep building that momentum.

“Yes, survival it’s the most important thing, but I think that within the group, the ambition and character of the lads means we always push ourselves to look up.

“Now we find ourselves in a strong position, and it’s an exciting opportunity to have a good go at finishing high up the table this season.”
