Mark Beesley: We looked like our old selves

Warrington Town boss Mark Beesley has praised a performance of old from his side as they booked their place in the FA Trophy first round proper with a 2-1 victory at Hebburn Town.

Goals from captain Josh Amis and Sean Williams helped the Yellows come from behind at the Green Energy Sports Ground.

The result means Town are now three games unbeaten ahead of Gainsborough Trinity’s trip to Cantilever Park in the Northern Premier League on Tuesday night.

Reflecting on his side’s display, Beesley said: “The performance today was back to what we’ve been at.

“We’ve just got to keep doing that. I said to the lads after the game, ‘results and goals will come’, and we’ve got to keep believing.”

He added: “I thought that [in the] first half we were very good.

“They had one header from a set-piece, but other than that I think we controlled the game and created chances.

“I felt it was just a matter of time before the goals came.”

Saturday’s match saw Connor Woods make his first appearance for the club, having joined on a one-month loan from Southport.

The 24-year-old produced a lively display, and Beesley is confident that the versatile forward can kick on.

“I thought he was really lively for the first 40 minutes, and then he tired a little bit, which is understandable,” he said.

“He’s not played as much as we’ve been recently, but he’ll be a good signing for us. In the first half, you saw glimpses of his quality.”

Josh Amis also netted his first goal of the season, crashing home an effort against the underside of the crossbar.

With a number of the Yellows’ other attacking options currently sidelined, Beesley has stressed Amis’ importance to the squad.

“Josh Amis is a big player for us,” he said. “History tells you how much he’s done for this club.

“It’s important that he gets his goals, because that’s what has been missing from his game.

“He’s still got a lot to do, to get to where I want him to be, but he knows that.

“We’ve got to be patient with him, but at the moment we can’t be because of what’s going on with the other forwards.

“He’s just got to get himself ready for Tuesday.”
