Mark Beesley: Togetherness the key for Yellows

Warrington Town boss Mark Beesley admits his side weren’t at their best on Tuesday night, but says their 1-0 victory over Stalybridge Celtic is testament to the resilience within the squad.

Tom Hannigan headed home his first goal for the club as Town maintained their 100% winning start to the new campaign.

Speaking post-match, Beesley says he was proud of the way his side dug in to secure their second victory of the season.

“It was a tough game,” he said. “I didn’t feel we were at our best tonight, but sometimes you can’t be at your best.

“Even the top teams in the world aren’t at their best every week, and in this league, it’s relentless.

“When you’re not at your best, it’s important you have that team spirit and togetherness to get you through nights like this.

“They put us under a lot of pressure in the second half but we withstood it very well.”

A dogged display on the road saw the Yellows defence stand firm, with goalscorer Hannigan and centre-back partner Evan Gumbs catching the eye at the heart of a back four.

Beesley was keen to emphasise the importance of the wider team’s performance after a second clean sheet of the season was secured.

“The two of them [Hannigan and Gumbs] have been excellent all through pre-season, and in these first two games they’ve shown what excellent players they are,” he added.

“To single them out might be a little unfair, though. Young Josh Seary is getting better and better and Andy White is steady away every week. You know what you’re going to get from him.

“Along with the goalkeeper, the back four have been excellent over the two games but I think this was a whole team effort.”
