Mark Beesley: Some of our football was excellent

Warrington Town boss Mark Beesley has praised the overall performance of his squad after they advanced past Morpeth Town with a 2-1 win in the FA Cup. 

Following Saturday’s 2-2 draw in the first qualifying round, the sides met again for the third time this season on Tuesday night.

And despite being pegged back midway through the second half, Evan Gumbs’ well-taken header sealed the club’s passage to the second qualifying round, where they will travel to Hyde United.

“We said before the first game that we had a tough draw,” Beesley said. “They’re a really good team with really good players.

“They’ve been two close games, but from our point of view we’ve played really well. At times today, some of our football was excellent. 

“The second goal, what a goal that is! If that was in the Premier League, we’d be talking for weeks and weeks about it. 

“We’re really pleased with some of the stuff that we’ve done today.”

Much of the Yellows’ excellent attacking work came down the right flank, with young defender Josh Seary and the ever-lively Stefan Mols proving to be a potent duo throughout the contest.

Speaking post-match, Beesley was quick to praise the pair for the role they played in securing safe passage to the next round. 

However, he has urged his players to avoid lapses in concentration after their cheap concession against the Highwaymen on Tuesday night.

“Young Josh has got better and better,” he said. “We knew he would, he’s a young boy.

“And Stef, he’s a good player who can play in a variety of positions, and that’s what we like about him. He’s energetic and makes chances for other people.

“It was great interplay, a great ball and a good header as well.”

On Morpeth’s equalising goal, he added: “It’s something that we need to get out of our game. We’re giving really poor goals away, and teams aren’t working hard to score against us.”
