Mark Beesley reflects on last-gasp Marine win

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley believes his side did enough to warrant their 2-1 victory over Marine on Easter Monday.

Substitute Isaac Buckley-Ricketts scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner for the Yellows after Joe Hardy had cancelled out Jordan Buckley’s cool finish shortly after half-time.

Monday’s result sealed the Yellows’ spot in the play-offs, with it now looking like a two-way battle between Town and Bamber Bridge for second place in the Northern Premier League table after South Shields were crowned champions following their 1-0 win at Whitby Town.

Speaking post-match, Beesley said: “I think we did enough. I think we’ve missed some great chances [too]. In the first half, Jordan [Buckley] had a free header and their keeper made some good saves.

“Jordan scores and then he misses an absolute sitter which 99 times out of 100 he scores and it would become 2-0.

“Then they got a bit of luck when the ball ricocheted off Bohan. It went through when normally he’s offside, and the lad finished it well. 

“To be fair, the game was a bit open but we still had great chances. We had a few shots at goal and their keeper made more good saves.

“I just thought, ‘well, if we can’t win, don’t lose’, and then Isaac popped up with the winner, and I think it’s deserved.”

The Yellows lead Bamber Bridge by one point in the league table, but with a tricky away day at South Shields to come next weekend, Beesley knows his side cannot afford to let complacency set in.

“You’ve just got to win and take each game as it comes,” he added.

“The aim was to get in the play-offs and the lads have done it with two games to spare, so every credit to them.

“Now we’re in the play-offs, it’s up to us to try and get as high as we can.”
