Mark Beesley reflects on FA Cup defeat

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley believes his side were unlucky as they bowed out of the FA Cup in a 3-2 defeat to Curzon Ashton.

The Yellows fought back from 1-0 down to lead thanks to goals from Dylan Mottley-Henry and Bohan Dixon, but a penalty on the stroke of half time and a Stefan Mols header sank any chance of a cup run for Town.

It was a match which could have swung in favour of the Yellows – Connor Woods and Mottley-Henry had efforts which hit the crossbar and also a penalty claim which was waved away just before the final whistle.

Despite the result, Beesley applauded his team’s efforts, especially given the reaction he wanted them to show after last weekend’s 3-0 defeat at Banbury United.

“I thought that we were really unlucky today,” he said.

“Considering how we played last week, I thought it was chalk and cheese. Today we gave it everything and we’re really unlucky to go out of the cup today.

“We hit the post twice, one was cleared off the line and we’re on the wrong end of things at the moment.

“We’re still giving teams a leg up when we concede after four minutes but sometimes that’s just the way it goes.

“On the whole, I thought that we were much better, it was more like us today but unfortunately we’ve gone out of the cup.”

It was another game where the Yellows conceded an early opening goal, with Isaac Sinclair striking from 30 yards out after just four minutes.

It’s a big concern for Mark Beesley, whose side have now conceded 15 goals in five matches, and he admits that, while things are going against them, they must improve quickly.

“It’s a massive concern. But at the same time, Dan didn’t make a save today – we’ve conceded from an individual error, a setpiece and we gave the ball away.

“Something was right today, but when things aren’t going for you, every little thing makes a difference.

“We’ve got into a bad habit of giving teams easy goals and we’ve got to stop that.

“Things are going against us but we’ve got to learn and we’ve got to improve.

“We’re up against it, but when it’s like that, we need characters and leaders and we all need to be together. The one thing that this club is, from top to bottom, is that we’re all together.

“We’ve got to keep going and believing in each other. If we perform like we did today, we won’t be far away.”
