Mark Beesley proud of dominant Morpeth display

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley admits he was delighted with the performance his players put in at Morpeth Town on Tuesday night.

Despite the daunting prospect of a long midweek away trip, the Yellows put the Highwaymen to the sword as a 4-0 win stretched their unbeaten league run to 18 matches.

Connor Woods scored his first goal since returning to the club on a permanent basis, while Dec Walker, Evan Gumbs and Josh Amis also got in on the act during the second half.

“With the ball, I thought we were very, very good,” Beesley said post-match.

“In the first half, we created so many great opportunities and we looked like a really good outfit in possession. Out of possession, we won it back quickly and put pressure on them.

“We were the dominant team from minute one – we deservedly scored four and on another night, we probably get six or seven.

“We should have had a penalty and we had a goal disallowed which was a bit harsh, but it was a really good performance.

“It’s a tough place to go especially on a Tuesday night so to get three points, score four goals and keep a clean sheet is a good night all round.”

Tuesday’s result lifted the Yellows up to second in the Northern Premier League table.

Their next assignment comes on Saturday away at Gainsborough Trinity, who currently occupy the final play-off spot and were 2-0 winners against the Yellows during the reverse fixture back in October.

With the challenges coming thick and fast, Beesley was quick to acknowledge the unwavering commitment of his players.

“You’ve got to give immense credit to the group of players we’ve got,” he added.

“It’s tough going up there on a Tuesday – you’ve got to take time off work and in some cases, you need the morning off on the Wednesday.

“The commitment and attitude they showed throughout the game was brilliant. We got on with it, dusted ourselves down and did really well.

“From our point of view, it was a joy to watch at times.”
