Mark Beesley praises ‘controlled’ Yellows display

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley has labelled his side’s performance “excellent” after they swept aside Lancaster City on Tuesday night. 

A Tom Hannigan header broke the deadlock shortly before half-time, and Jordan Buckley swept home Sean Williams’ cross nine minutes after the break as the Yellows stretched their unbeaten league run to 11 matches. 

Tuesday also saw the Yellows record their second clean sheet in a row, having beaten Stafford Rangers by the same scoreline last weekend. 

“We’ve not been home for a while, so to come back and get back-to-back wins, and more importantly back-to-back clean sheets, is excellent,” he said.

“I don’t think we’ve had enough clean sheets for how well we’ve defended this season. The lads at the back are getting the clean sheets they deserve.

“Tom’s goal is a great header – he attacks the ball really well. When we put in the quality of ball that Sean [Williams] was putting in today, it’s hard not to attack it.

“We spoke before the game about not really starting well in the past few games, but we were on it for the first 20 minutes.

“With a few better decisions in the final third, we probably get in on goal.

“They came back into it. They changed shape and nullified us a bit, but the goal before half-time really changes the team talk.

“We controlled the game in the second half, and on another day we probably score another couple.”

Beesley was also pleased to see Buckley on the scoresheet as the striker continues to work his way back to full fitness following a lengthy injury lay-off. 

“I had a good chat with him over the weekend,” the Yellows boss added.

“We’ve got to all understand that Jordan played four times in nine months. He missed all of pre-season, so we’ve got to be patient with him. 

“It takes a while to come back. It’s a long injury he’s had, and we’ve got to understand when to dip him in and when not to.”
