Mark Beesley pleased with draw on final day at Rushall Olympic

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley was satisfied to round off the season by picking up a point on the road at Rushall Olympic in the National League North.

Chances for Josh Amis and Isaac Buckley-Ricketts almost sealed a perfect end to the season for the Yellows, but the hosts held on to grab a share of the spoils in a game with relatively little to play for in terms of league position.

Nevertheless, defeat for Scarborough means that Mark Beesley’s men have secured 12th in the league – a top-half finish in their maiden campaign at Step 2.

Speaking post-match, Beesley said: “We’re really pleased – if you look back on the whole season, to finish 12th with 64 points is a great achievement for the club.

“Today’s game had a little bit of an end-of-season feel to it.

“I felt as though we got stronger as the game wore on. Connor [Woods] gave everyone a lift when he came onto the pitch.

“We had a couple of great chances to win, we should have had a penalty but it was 0-0 and we had a clean sheet.

“We finished the season with a point and now we enjoy our summer and get ready for next season.”

With matters on the field concluding for a few months, the focus now shifts to preparing the squad for another season in the National League North.

The club has seen immense growth this season, and even though there is plenty of work still to do, Beesley is determined to push on further in their next campaign.

“The club has got to keep moving forward as it has done for years,” Beesley said.

“That’s the way it has been in the three years since I’ve been the manager.

“We’ve got to keep moving forward on the pitch – we all know how hard the chairman is working off of the pitch so we’ve just got to do our job.

“We’ve got to sit down with the players and try to build a squad for next year. We’re hoping to add one or two new faces which is always nice.

“Then we just go from there, pre-season will soon be here.”
