Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley believes Tuesday’s 1-0 victory over Buxton is up there with one of his best wins at the club.
Down on numbers and only able to name a four-man bench after the club’s injury list worsened last weekend, a first minute strike from Matty Grivosti was enough to see the Yellows pick up their second league win in three matches, in front of 860 vocal supporters at the UNIS Compliance Stadium.
Chances came and went to extend their lead and put the game beyond doubt, with Connor Woods twice going close in the first half, Evan Gumbs heading just wide and Bucks goalkeeper Max Dearnley denying Isaac Buckley-Ricketts midway through the second half.
Still, the Yellows held on for maximum points, and Beesley has emphasised how impressive a victory it was, given the context of the match.
Speaking post-match, he said: “We know we’re down to the bare bones, and I can’t praise my players enough tonight – I thought they were outstanding.
“We’ve only got 12 [players at the moment]. Dec is coming back fitness-wise and we lose Bohan now, so I can’t praise them enough.
“Out of possession, willing to do that extra bit for each other and throw their bodies on the line – to be honest, I think they [Buxton] only had one shot.
“In possession we showed our quality and scored a great goal. At times I think we could’ve scored a few more, but that was one of the best performances for us, considering the circumstances.
“Everyone knows the situation and where we’re at. We’ve got no players, but I don’t want to just go and sign people for the sake of it. I trust what we’ve got, and they’re good enough to play at this level.”
Grivosti, making his first league start since re-joining the club earlier this summer, could hardly have asked for a better start after being picked out by midfield livewire Aaron Bennett.
The 20-year-old entered the penalty area before keeping his cool to lash a shot into the far corner, and Beesley was quick to highlight the quality of his overall display.

“I’m made up for Matty because he got injured when he arrived at the club and hasn’t had a real pre-season, the same as Dec Walker,” Beesley added.
“For me to ask him to do 100 minutes is a bit harsh, but he’s a fit lad and looks after himself.
“It was great play, a great pass from Bennett, and he finished it well.”
The Yellows will now prepare for away games against Chorley and Boston United on consecutive Saturdays, before returning home to face Curzon Ashton on Bank Holiday Monday, August 28.
