Mark Beesley delighted with Gloucester City display

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley was pleased with the response his side showed as they bounced back from their recent home defeat to collect all three points at Gloucester City.

A brace from captain Josh Amis after Connor Woods’ third-minute opener was enough to see the Yellows run out 3-1 winners at the TigerTurf Stadium.

With back-to-back games to come at the UNIS Compliance Stadium, Beesley was happy with the intensity his side showed on the road, and how they used Gloucester’s artificial pitch to their advantage.

“It was a good performance from us,” he said post-match.

“We started the game with real intent, scored a good goal, and at times I thought we played some really good stuff.

“We played through them, we played into Josh and we looked dangerous. Dan [Atherton] makes a worldie save at 1-0 to keep us in it.

“We know how good he is – he can make those saves, and it got us in at 2-0 at half time.

“I think it was a bit of an unlucky goal to concede – I’ve been critical of the goals we’ve been conceding but I think we were a bit unlucky there.

“It’s a bit of a ricochet – it’s a 50/50 and it ends up in the net, which happens, but what I was pleased with was how we got composed again.

“We got ourselves back into the game, kept the ball and scored a good third goal. From then on, it was relatively straightforward.”

Captain Amis kept up his goalscoring return to action, with a composed first half finish beyond Zach Jeacock and a trademark header seeing the forward make it three goals in four matches since returning from an injury which has hampered him during the early parts of the season.

On the manner of his display, Beesley added: “Josh is our captain and is a leader for us. If you put balls in the box for him, generally he will get on the end of them.

“We rushed him a bit last week with three games in a week – we didn’t want to do that and wouldn’t have done if Jordan Buckley wasn’t sick, but he’s had a full week’s training this week.

“He’s scored two good goals and led the line really well. He’s a big player for us and we need to make sure we keep him fit.”

The Yellows welcome Rushall Olympic to the UNIS Compliance Stadium next Saturday (3pm kick-off) – the first of successive home games in league and cup.
