Mark Beesley commends ‘worthy’ King’s Lynn victory

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley has praised his side for their performance in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over King’s Lynn Town.

Despite only having 12 senior players available for the fixture, a fine strike from Isaac Buckley-Ricketts just before the end of the first half was enough to secure the Yellows’ first league victory in over a month, in front of over 1,000 supporters at the UNIS Compliance Stadium.

After concerns that his team conceded too many early goals, Mark Beesley called upon former Liverpool and West Brom defender Andre Wisdom, who steadied the backline as Town also picked up a first clean sheet in seven matches in all competitions.

Feeling that his side was hard done by in last week’s FA Cup defeat, Beesley believes that the players have received their just rewards after some much-improved performances over the previous weeks.

Speaking after the match, he said: “We had a positive performance last week and we were pleased by that but not the result.

“It was mistakes that have been costing us, and today, we’ve probably only made one mistake in the whole game.

“I thought that from start to finish, we were well worthy of the win today.

“We’ve had a few meetings with the lads this week about how we can improve and get better and I must give them great credit – they’ve been positive, they’ve trained really well, and, to be fair, on a different day we score another three of four goals.”

Andre Wisdom was given his Yellows debut just days after joining the club, playing a vital role in helping his new side pick up a much-needed three points.

The ex-Premier League defender marshalled a brilliant defensive display operating alongside Tom Hannigan and Peter Clarke, and Beesley was more than pleased to sing his praises.

“He’s been a breath of fresh air,” the Yellows boss added.

“He’s calm, composed and he wants to play for us, which is brilliant.

“We managed to get [the signing] sorted in the latter part of last week, and with the numbers we’ve got, he was always going to straight into the team.

“He wanted to get back in the game, he’s only 30, so he came in and did really well. We had a chat on Tuesday where he said that he just wanted to get back playing first and foremost and that he’s not interested in the financial side of it which is a huge credit to the type of person he is.”

The Yellows will now have a two-week respite from footballing duties, with their next match coming away at Alfreton Town on Saturday 7 October.
