Mark Beesley: Chorley win a credit to my players

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley was delighted to see his side make it three straight wins in the National League North as goals from Connor Woods and Isaac Buckley-Ricketts helped them past play-off-chasing Chorley

Beesley spoke pre-match about how he felt Chorley were one of the best teams he had seen all season, but it would be the Magpies who left Cantilever Park empty-handed on Saturday afternoon.

In a pulsating game with chances at both ends, the deadlock was broken 11 minutes from time thanks to a fine curling finish from Woods.

Buckley-Ricketts made it a quickfire double when he rounded visiting goalkeeper Max Dearnley to bag his 11th goal of the season, and not even a late goal back from substitute Oliver Shenton could deny the Yellows all three points.

Speaking post-match, Beesley said: “I’m really pleased. I’ve watched them a few times this season and they’re a really good team.

“For us to go toe-to-toe with them and match them is a credit to what we’ve got in the building.

“We had a couple of really good chances in the first half and on another day, we probably come in a couple of goals ahead. They had one really good chance which Dan [Atherton] made an excellent save for.

“They’re a good team, we’re a good team and it was a good game. Testament to the level of the game were Connor and Isaac’s goals – especially Connor’s, which was a brilliant finish.”

Saturday’s 2-1 win was the Yellows’ third in a row in the league – a result which leaves them just a point outside the play-off places.

Beesley was quick to pay tribute to the players at his disposal as they continue to exceed expectations on their debut season in the National League North.

“We’ve got a small squad, but it’s full of quality. We will make changes, and we have to give people a rest – especially with the Tuesday game coming up later in the month,” he added.

“It’s a credit to the lads. We have 15 players who are all vying for those starting spaces. We’ve all got to be ready, and they understand that.

“They’re a tight-knit group, but they’re also good people. When they’re out on the pitch, they give everything for the club. That’s all I can ask.”
