Mark Beesley: At times we were outstanding

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley believes Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Hyde United was a demonstration of the quality his players have shown all season. 

A first half brace from captain Josh Amis, plus a third late on from last season’s top scorer Jordan Buckley off the bench, secured the Yellows second place in the Northern Premier League table – the club’s highest ever finish. 

A crowd of over 1,400 witnessed Town dominate at times against the Tigers, who missed out on a play-off spot on the final day as other results went against them. 

“Today was symbolic of how we’ve been in my opinion. We were excellent,” Beesley said post-match.

“We’ve got a lot of lads playing with little niggling injuries, and today at times we were outstanding. Hyde United are a good team who were fifth in the league. 

“I think we’ve won relatively comfortably, and on another day, we probably score a couple more. That’s just the standard of players that we’ve got, and the level they’ve been at for most of the season.”

Attention now turns to the play-off semi-finals for Beesley and his squad, with Matlock Town visiting Cantilever Park on Tuesday night. 

Beesley admits he has an overwhelming sense of pride for the way his players have conducted their business in recent months.

He added: “For this group of players, to get the club its highest ever finish is an outstanding achievement. I keep saying it, people should be proud of them.

“We’re second in the league, and we’ve pushed a team who are full-time really close. We were ‘best of the rest’, if you like. 

“It’s up to us to take this form and take this attitude into Tuesday.”
