Josh Amis ready to grasp first team chance

Warrington Town captain Josh Amis is excited to try and bolster the Yellows’ threat in the final third following his return from suspension. 

Amis had been out of action for a number of weeks following his late sending-off against Guiseley in the FA Trophy back in November.

However, he made his comeback as a second half substitute against Nantwich Town earlier this week and had a late winner ruled out for offside after steering home Eddie Clarke’s cross.

“I was made up to be a part of the matchday squad again,” Amis said.

“It’s been a while since I’ve been involved because of the way the fixtures have fallen, so I was made up to get some minutes.

“I’ve been training in every session. It’s a bit annoying when you know you can’t play, but you’ve got to keep at it and stay sharp for when you can come back and try to regain your place in the starting XI.”

After a run of three successive draws in the league, Town will look to return to winning ways on Saturday as second-bottom Belper Town visit Cantilever Park. 

It will be a first game in charge for new Nailers boss Lee Attenborough, and Amis insists his side cannot afford to let league position dictate how they approach the fixture.

“We will be trying to get maximum points but we do every game regardless of the opposition,” he admitted. 

“I think this league is very competitive, so anyone can beat anyone and there’s not a side that can be taken lightly.

“It’s a challenge I’m definitely looking forward to, and hopefully I can do enough to start this weekend.”
