Josh Amis loving life in the National League North

Having suffered a cruel injury on the eve of the National League North season, Warrington Town captain Josh Amis is pleased to finally be back amongst the cut and thrust of the division.

With 12 goals to his name, Amis finished as the Yellows’ top scorer during last season’s promotion-winning campaign.

However, a knee injury suffered in a pre-season friendly against Morecambe meant he would miss the opening weeks of the season.

He has since worked his way back to full fitness and is now relishing the opportunity to test himself against higher-level opposition.

“I’ve really enjoyed my return to playing,” said Amis, who made his competitive debut against Farsley Celtic in August 2018 and has gone on to amass a total of 165 appearances.

“It was a nightmare injury for me as I’m a plumber and work on my knees a lot, so it wasn’t ideal.

“I’m enjoying it at the moment. I think it’s always good to test yourself at a higher level, and it’s good to play against new teams too.

“It’s also great to play in front of large crowds – they have continued to get bigger year-on-year. I think our home following has grown hugely since I first joined the club, so it’s definitely going in the right direction which is always good.”

Amis has hit the ground running in his five National League North appearances to date – scoring three times, including a brace at Gloucester City last weekend.

He also hit a personal milestone in Town’s recent 4-1 triumph on the road at Bishop’s Stortford – netting his 50th goal for the club.

“It’s good to hit a milestone like that, the powerful striker added. “I’m made up to be back playing, and I think the lads have done brilliantly when I’ve been out of action too.

“Without me and Jordan Buckley being available, someone’s needed to play out of position and we’ve still been competitive in every game.

“I think it gives the team a boost, having the two of us back. We were quite short on numbers, so to get both strikers fit again at the same time should be a real lift.

“We each have a different style of playing, so it’s gives the manager more options in the forward areas.”
