Josh Amis delivers captain’s message ahead of season finale

Warrington Town captain Josh Amis is confident the club can maintain their lofty ambitions next season as their debut campaign in the National League North comes to an end this weekend.

The Yellows have performed admirably throughout the year and guaranteed their survival with several weeks of the season left to play.

And although home form has dipped in recent weeks, a credible 1-1 draw at champions Tamworth in their previous away fixture means Mark Beesley’s side have won two and drawn two of their previous four matches on the road.

Victory at Rushall Olympic on the final day, coupled with Scarborough Athletic dropping points at home to promotion-chasing Alfreton Town, would see Town end the season in the top half – a feat Amis believes is testament to the resilience within the squad.

He said: “It’s been a good season. I think that with a few additional lads we could’ve maybe pushed a little bit further up the table.

“We’ve been stretched at times – I think that’s no secret – but the objective was to stay in the league and I think the lads have done a great job of that.

“A few good additions this summer would really strengthen us and help us kick on.”

Amis produced a curling left-footed finish to score his seventh goal of the season against Hereford last weekend – and his first since New Year’s Day.

The Yellows captain is expected to undergo shoulder surgery at the end of the season, with his determination to play through the pain barrier praised by manager Beesley after the club’s most recent outing.

With one game left to play, and with another healthy following expected to join the Yellows at Dales Lane on Saturday, Amis paused to deliver a message to the club’s supporters.

“I’d personally like to thank all the fans. They’ve been great all season, home and away,” the 29-year-old added.

“It’s nice to see so many familiar faces and new ones reaping the rewards of big away days, which in this league come more often than the last few years.

“I hope they enjoy the last game, and hopefully we’ll see them again next season.”
