Gearing up for the new season

While many football fans attention is currently turned towards the conclusion of the Champions League, and Europa League, others are waiting with anticipation the start of the next one. The Northern Premier League recently announced a start date of Saturday September 19.

The Post-Season Wrap Up

Following the abrupt end of the Northern Premier League’s Premier Division season (courtesy of the COVID-19 pandemic), Warrington Town was placed in third, two points off FC United of Manchester. The delayed start to the season will also include midweek FA Cup matches, with the Yellows first scheduled to be playing in the Preliminary Round on September 22.

In early June, the club announced that captain Mark Roberts, as well as Josh Amis and Jack Mackreth, have signed new contracts. Jack Dunn, Matt Regan, Bohan Dixon, Mitch Duggan, Jordan Buckley and Adam Carden have also been retained. David Raven is back for pre-season training before making a decision on whether he will remain, while Shaun Beeley and Dylan Vassallo’s futures remain unknown. 

Players who have since left include Asher Nelson, Luke Wall, Tony McMillan, Fisayo Adarabioyo and Tony Gray. Naturally, loanees Isaac Marriott and Scott Brown have also returned to their parent clubs.

What’s new at Cantilever Park

Radcliffe FC’s Callum Grogan was announced as the first new Yellows signing in June. That same day, Charlie Munro also joined from Ashton Athletic. They have been followed by former FC United midfielder Craig Carney and defender Joel Amado from Trafford.

Perhaps the most eye-catching signing so far came over the weekend, with the return of Evan Gumbs from Tranmere. Equally comfortable in defence and midfielder, Gumbs has previously had three spells on loan at Cantilever Park, and was recently released by Football League club Tranmere Rovers.

Off the field, the club launched its Stand Sponsorship Raffle to raise funds before the start of the season, with companies able to enter for £100 to win naming rights to the Cantilever bridge end of the ground.

Season Tickets have been launched too, while Player Sponsorship is available for renewal to those who sponsored their chosen player last season.

The Northern Premier League Returns

The Northern Premier League sponsorship deal with BetVictor come to an end in the summer, with no news yet as to whether there will be a replacement in time for the new campaign. The Northern Premier League recently announced that the three divisions of the competition would remain unchanged for the 2020/2021 season, which may be of assistance to sports betting fans eager to capitalise on the return of non-league football.
