Early goal sends Yellows on their way in FA Trophy

A goal inside the opening minute sent Warrington Town on their way to a 2-0 win over Chasetown and progress in the FA Trophy.

Sought after youngster Matt Grivosti got on the end of Matt Regan’s cross to open the scoring inside 52 seconds.

They had several chances to double that lead but had to wait until 14 minutes from time to be sure of progress, Luke Duffy’s assured finish making it 2-0.

Chasetown finished the game with 10 men when Zack Foster was sent off for apparent dissent, having ignored the referee’s request to come towards him to receive a yellow card.

The visitors from the West Division had given themselves a tough task with their early blip, but warmed the hands of Dan Atherton in a lively first quarter.

Their ‘keeper Curtis Pond was forced in to action to save from Duffy and then denied a Josh Amis header following good work by Stefan Mols, making his first start for the Yellows.

Warrington controlled the second half and could have scored twice in the opening five minutes – Mols’ downward header clawed away by Pond, who had previously denied Grivosti a second.

Duffy and Pond were almost having an individual duel, the ‘keeper making another save from the Yellows midfielder, until he finally got one through right-footed from Amis’ flick-on.

The only blot on the Yellows copybook was frontman Amis going off injured in the closing stages, but they came close to a third in injury time when substitute Jack Mackreth hit a shot against the post.
