Dec Walker: We’ve got nothing to lose on Saturday

Warrington Town’s Dec Walker wants the Yellows squad to keep gathering momentum ahead of Saturday’s FA Trophy clash with South Shields. 

Mark Beesley’s side have been in fine form of late, despite bowing out of the Cheshire Senior Cup on penalties to Stalybridge Celtic in midweek.

Town are set to face a high-flying Mariners side next, and a win could see them secure a tie against teams from the division above in the next round.

Ahead of Saturday’s game, Walker admits the strength of South Shields’ squad is there for all to see, but believes the squad is more than capable of securing victory.

He said: “It’s a ‘nothing to lose’ game. We just need to keep our momentum going.

“It’s probably the toughest draw we could’ve had at this stage so far. 

“But we’ve beaten them before, so there’s no reason not to beat them again.

“We’ll just concentrate on ourselves, go from there and let them worry about us.”

Town will be keen to progress to the next round, but to do so they will need to beat a South Shields side littered with experience at a higher level.

Walker, who arrived at Cantilever Park at the beginning of September, is excited to see the squad prove themselves against tough, full-time opposition.

“You want to test yourselves against the best,” he admitted.

“Now we’ve only got the FA Trophy left, we just want to win every game we can and see who we can potentially come up against.

“There are some big clubs coming in over the next couple of rounds, so it would be great to win, keep our run going and hopefully get more big fixtures in the next couple of rounds.”
