Connor Woods joins Chester

Warrington Town can confirm the sale of Connor Woods to Chester FC.

Woods, 26, was out of contract at the end of the season and was offered a deal to become the club’s highest paid player, but informed the club that he wanted to leave amidst interest from other clubs.

After rejecting several bids from a number of clubs, the club has reluctantly agreed to a fee of £12,500 for Woods’ services, when he otherwise would have left for free in the summer.

As part of the deal, Woods will not be able to play against the Yellows this season, with the two clubs due to meet at the Deva Stadium on March 11.

He was a key part of the team that won promotion to National League North in 2022/23, when he appeared for the Yellows first on loan, before arriving as a permanent signing for a club-record fee in March 2023.

In total, Woods scored 29 goals in 93 appearances for the Yellows, including six in 26 appearances this season, with his work rate and ability making him a fans’ favourite at the Cal.Delivery Stadium

One of his most memorable goals was the fourth in the first half in the incredible win over Matlock Town in the play-off semi-finals, and he also contributed with late equalisers away at Darlington and Chorley following promotion.

This season he has become something of a set-piece specialist, scoring three direct free-kicks and three penalties, the last of which was ironically against Chester at the end of November.

Everyone at the club would like to thank Connor for his contribution and wish him all the best for the future.
