Connor Woods hoping to spark Yellows revival

Connor Woods is keen to help Warrington Town push on after an indifferent start to the Northern Premier League season.

Woods joined the Yellows on loan from Southport last week, starting in Saturday’s FA Trophy victory over Hebburn Town before making his home debut in Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat to Gainsborough Trinity at Cantilever Park.

Having settled quickly into life at the club, the 24-year-old now has aims of helping Town turn their recent form around in hopes of getting back to winning ways.

“Of course, that’s one of the main reasons I’m here,” Woods said. “I want to help the team do well and go on a run of winning some games.

“Personally, I’d like to get a few goals and get consistent with my performances. There are a lot of matches coming up so it should be a good few weeks.”

After a promising opening two displays, coupled with the Yellows’ currency injury woes in the final third, Woods is ready to embrace his role within the group ahead of a busy period of October fixtures.

He said: “The first few days have been really good, getting to know the lads and everyone involved.

“I’m looking forward to getting more minutes and hopefully getting some good results.”

Tuesday night’s defeat to Gainsborough saw the club drop to 14th in the Northern Premier League table ahead of this weekend’s inaugural trip to Liversedge.

Woods admits the Yellows were capable of getting more from Tuesday’s match, and hopes they can address their recent inconsistencies following a promising display in the FA Trophy three days prior.

“Saturday was good to get through, even though we could have scored about 4/5 goals,” Woods said.

“However, the first alf on Tuesday was tough, to be honest, as we never really kept the ball as good as we should have.

“In the second half, I think we did much better, so it was a lot easier getting on the ball and trying to create chances.”
