Captain's message ahead of Needham Market trip

Warrington Town captain Josh Amis believes players, staff and supporters must put on a united front as the club's fight to avoid relegation continues this weekend.

Just four points currently separate the bottom six in the National League North heading into the latest round of fixtures.

The Yellows only find themselves out of the relegation zone on goal difference - although the side immediately below them, Radcliffe, have played three games fewer.

This weekend sees Paul Carden's side make the long trip to Suffolk to take on Needham Market, who are three points below Town at the bottom of the division.

And Amis, who has made over 200 appearances for the club since his debut in 2018, insists the squad are up for the fight as they look to secure a much-needed three points on their travels.

"It is really tight down at the bottom, but as it is every week, the work starts on the training pitch," Amis said.

"We need a win - it’s as simple as that.

"No-one needs telling that performances haven’t been up to the standards we've come to expect over the last few years, but it was always going to be a tough ask this season.

"This group of players are up for the battle, and that’s what has earned us success over the years.

"We need to show that never-say-die attitude and provide a threat right until the end. Hopefully we can find some form, to help us look up the table rather than what's going on below us.

"I’d also like to say a big thank you to the fans, home and away, for their support.

"They pay their money every week and support the lads with their songs and cheering. That doesn’t go unnoticed, and we appreciate it as players.

"Having that extra man will be crucial for us as we keep moving towards the business end of the season."

Off the pitch, the Yellows will also enjoy a change in pre-match preparations this weekend.

Rather than making the 216-mile trip to Needham Market on the morning of the game, the squad will travel the day before and stay overnight, to avoid the long journey ahead of kick-off.

Amis says the players will embrace this weekend's change, in a bid to ensure they can put in an improved performance at Bloomfields.

"I think it’s a lot easier to be switched on when your preparations start on a Friday," he admitted.

"I’m sure all the lads will try to prepare as well as they can.

"A lot of them have family commitments, so maybe they'll be happy with a night away from their partners and kids!

"But in all seriousness, it’s a lot easier when you haven’t got a 4/5 hour drive on the day of the game, and hopefully we'll be a lot fresher on the pitch as a result."
