Beesley reflects on a good point against Colls

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley says the draw at home to Atherton Collieries may prove to be a good one.

Jordan Buckley’s first half opener was cancelled out by former Yellows striker Scott Bakkor after half-time and the two sides had to settle for a 1-1 draw on Tuesday night.

Beesley said: “I think it was a good point in the end.  They caused us problems all night from set pieces. I didn’t think we were at our fluent best but to come in 1-0 at half time was good.

“I thought we started second half reasonably well and then they had a 20 minute spell where we were hanging on and then we came good at the end and probably could have nicked it but a draw was probably a fair result.

“They had a good system, they’re well coached and at times it caused us problems. We needed better control of the ball. They pressed us well with good energy.

“It is a tough league, any game is a tough game, got to take each game differently and in the end it could be a good point.”

Buckley was making his first start of the season and added to the goal he scored off the bench in the home opener against Morpeth.

He was brought off shortly after the hour mark in a triple substitution.

Beesley added: “We knew Jordan didn’t have more than an hour in him. I think the fresh legs helped, we got a little bit of control back as the game went on.

“He’s a big player for us, everybody knows that. When he’s on the pitch he’s a threat, he nicks goals, even when he’s not at his best. And he’s clearly not at his best, he’s probably put two or three training sessions together since April. He was out for a long time, came back for the playoffs and final and then he’s been out in pre-season.

“He’s had six months without much football so we’ve got to be careful with him. The last thing we want is him picking up more injuries so we’ll ease him in to things.”

Beesley confirmed that the club will be appealing the red card that Buckley received in the 1-1 draw against Belper Town at the weekend.
