Beesley provides injury update & reflects on first game in charge

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley reflects on his first game in charge of the club following his recent appointment and says he is expecting a tough match this weekend against Lancaster City.

The new era under Beesley ended in a penalty shoot-out defeat in the FA Trophy at home to Morpeth Town, but with plenty of positives to take from a game without the likes of Jack Mackreth, Jordan Buckley and Jay Harris in the starting XI.

He takes the reins following the departure of Paul Carden, who recently took charge of AFC Telford United after five years in charge at Cantilever Park.

“Last week was different, being my first game in charge at Warrington Town,” said Beesley.

“I’ve stood on the side for five years with someone next to me, a friend and someone I learned a lot from. It was different to do it on my own.

“I have done it before on my own, but it was the first at Warrington Town on my own. I enjoyed it and would have liked to go through, but it wasn’t to be on penalties, but it also keeps our unbeaten run going in normal time.

“There will only be slight changes that I’ll make while in charge. The team is on a good run and the lads are implementing stuff we’ve put together ourselves. It would be foolish to change things, so there will be nothing much to change.

“I will put my own thinking and ideas around one or two things, but it will be a case of carrying on as we were with only slight changes and hopefully continuing to collect points in the league.”

On the support since his appointment, Beesley added: “I’ve had a lot of welcome and good luck messages from supporters and everyone around the club. Supporters have been really good since I’ve been at the club.

“They have been steadily increasing in numbers and have been supportive even through tough times and I want to give them something to smile about week in, week out. They are intelligent supporters and know how tough this league is, so I know they’ll continue supporting us.”

The Yellows return to league action this Saturday at home to Lancaster City, who sit 13th in the league table and recently defeated Buxton in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division.

“Lancaster City are doing well and are tough to play against,” Beesley said.

“They always pick up results and they beat one of the league favourites recently. We can expect a tough match.

“We had a few missing last week, Jay Harris is making his way back and Jordan Buckley is making his way back from injury.

“Eddie Clarke has a long-term injury and there are a few bumps and bruises. Hopefully Josh Amis will be back, but we’ll know more later in the week.”
