Beesley praises composure after comeback win against Bishop’s Stortford

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley was pleased to see his players maintain their focus as they came from behind to overcome Bishop’s Stortford 2-1 on Saturday.

The Yellows started the weekend in the top half while the Blues were cut 15 points adrift at the foot of the National League North table.

Nevertheless, it was the visitors who took the lead in the second half through Mark Haines, forcing the hosts to regroup and produce a dopped display to turn things around in the final quarter.

Isaac Buckley-Ricketts lashed home a 68th minute leveller, his 15th goal of the season, before substitute Matt Grivosti poked the ball home with his first touch of the game to complete the comeback with 15 minutes to go.

“I think the goal gave us a bit of a jolt,” Beesley conceded post-match.

“It was a poor goal to concede from our point of view, from a set-piece. There’s been miscommunication from us and their lad has tapped it in.

“From that position, we were composed and we didn’t panic. We kept doing the right things and started to create chances.

“Isaac scores a very good goal, and at that point, the momentum is with us.

“We felt like getting three fresh bodies on the pitch at the same time would give us a bit more energy and it’s worked.

“Matty scores straight away, and it gave us the momentum we needed.”

Beesley was quick to praise top scorer Buckley-Ricketts as his goal-scoring exploits continued with another timely goal for his side.

The Yellows manager added: “It was good thinking – a quick, short corner which caught them out.

“Isaac has got quick feet and it was a great strike. He’s played up front, he’s played left, he’s played right – he’s got that ability.”
