Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley issued an honest assessment of his squad’s performance following Saturday’s defeat away at Banbury United.
The Yellows were bested 3-0 by the Oxfordshire outfit, who virtually had the game wrapped up after 15 minutes when Ken Charles and Aidan Elliott-Wheeler found the back of the net, before killing the fixture off completely early on in the second half with Charles scoring his second of the afternoon.
It was a far cry from Town’s previous outing in midweek which saw them come from behind to claim a point in a 3-3 draw against Spennymoor Town.
Conditions were not ideal for Mark Beesley’s side who had to endure a long journey to the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium in the heat, but he dismissed this as an excuse for the performance that they displayed.
“No, I think it was the same for both teams. I think to a man, that was the worst performance since I’ve been here,” he said.

“The throw-away comment that you could make 11 subs could never have been more true at half-time.
“We can’t accept that – they can’t accept that as a group and we can’t as a management team because that was nowhere near good enough in every department.
“The heat played a part but it’s easier to cope with it when you’re winning 2-0 after 15 minutes.
“We’re chasing the game and it makes it doubly hard for us, but we can’t use it as an excuse.”
Despite injuries still plaguing his already depleted side, Beesley has urged his players to show a reaction after conceding two more early goals in a game that slipped away from them before they could get going.
“We’ve got to have a sit down this week and change a few things. We’re conceding far too many goals and it means we’re chasing games. We’re going to have to look at a lot of things,” he said.

“There’s soul-searching to be done and there’s a lot of questions to be asked. I’m questioning them and I’m looking for a reaction.
“We’ve got injuries and it is costing us. We can’t change things but we can’t use it as an excuse.
“The players that were on the pitch today didn’t do enough. It’s as simple as that. They were deserved winners, but they won easy and we didn’t lay a glove on them.”
