Amis looks ahead to Gainsborough test

Warrington Town captain Josh Amis says the squad are excited by the challenge facing them at Gainsborough Trinity this weekend.

The fixture pits second against fifth in the Northern Premier League, with the Holy Blues able to climb back above Mark Beesley’s side with a win on Saturday.

With 65 goals in total, Trinity are the division’s top scorers – one ahead of current league leaders South Shields. They have lost just two of their last 11 at home – a run stretching back to October 25.

Despite the magnitude of the fixture, Amis believes the Yellows squad – buoyed by a magnificent 4-0 win at Morpeth Town on Tuesday night – has what it takes to upset Gainsborough on their own patch and stretch their club-record unbeaten run to 19 matches.

“We were made up with the result in midweek, as everyone knows it’s always a tough place to visit,” he said.

AWAY TRAVEL: South Shields

“It can catch teams out at Morpeth, especially on a Tuesday night, so it was a very good performance from the lads and a great win.

“Now I think Gainsborough will be another tough game. Their record at home is really good, so you can see the task that’s in front of us.

“We know that it’s all about preparing right and making sure we’re ready for the game because they are in the play-off spots for a reason.”
