Preview: Warrington Town vs Spennymoor Town

Warrington Town turn their attention back to league matters this Saturday as they welcome Spennymoor Town to the Cal.Delivery Stadium in the National League North.

Interim managers Nigel Keogh and Mark Canning will take charge of the Yellows this weekend after Mark Beesley stepped down from the role following last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at home to Radcliffe in the FA Cup second qualifying round.

The last encounter against the Moors on home soil ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw, with Dylan Mottley-Henry rising highest from a corner in the final seconds of the clash to rescue a point for Town.

Below, we’ve compiled everything you need to know ahead of the fixture.

Team news

Captain Josh Amis continues to work his way back to fitness, while defender Peter Clarke will remain on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery on Monday.

There were no fresh injury concerns following Saturday’s FA Cup defeat.

Mark Canning preview

Warrington Town joint-interim manager Mark Canning states that his side is more than capable of bouncing back from what has been a difficult few days.

The goalkeeping coach took up the reigns of the first team alongside assistant manager Nigel Keogh following the departure of Mark Beesley last Saturday.

Despite only having a limited time to prepare for the next game with the squad, Canning believes that the players are determined to fight on.

Mark’s departure was a bit of a surprise, but we’ve just been given the simple directive of taking training this week,” he said.

“We got the lads in on Tuesday night, and it’s clear to me that the group Mark has left is fantastic. We gave them a light workout at training and got them smiling and enjoying their football.

“The group have been pretty upbeat because they know there’s a job to do on Saturday. We’ve got to work hard in preparation for Spennymoor.

“The infrastructure put in place by Bees has been great, let’s be honest.

Hopefully we can get a good, positive result and performance before next week’s break, then the lads will be hungry to get back out there and play again.”
