Preview: Warrington Town vs Needham Market

Warrington Town gear up for their third consecutive home game this Saturday as they welcome Needham Market to the Cal.Delivery Stadium in the National League North.

The Yellows will be hoping to bounce back from their disappointing 2-1 defeat to Farsley Celtic on Bank Holiday Monday.

It will be the club’s first-ever meeting with Needham Market, and the visitors will be aiming to kickstart their season by picking up their first win of the league campaign this weekend.

Below, we’ve compiled everything you need to know ahead of the fixture.

Team news

Peter Clarke will be absent from the matchday squad after picking up an injury in the early stages of the clash against Kidderminster Harriers.

Fellow defender Ollie Southern will be assessed ahead of the weekend following a knock that he incurred in last Saturday’s game.

Warrington Town winger Josh Miles says there is extra determination within the squad ahead of Saturday’s clash with Needham Market, following the club’s first home defeat of the season on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Yellows endured mixed fortunes over the bank holiday weekend at the Cal.Delivery Stadium, with an impressive 2-1 win over former National League side Kidderminster Harriers followed up by a disappointing late defeat to Farsley Celtic less than 48 hours later.

Miles was a substitute in both games, having started each of the opening three in the National League North this season.

Mark Beesley’s side round off the first month of the season with another home game, this time against Needham Market, who prop up the table after five games.

“Monday’s defeat was a really tough one to take, especially after being on such a high after beating Kidderminster on Saturday,” he said.

“To then come out and get beat at home was a blow, but the focus now for all the lads is Needham Market on Saturday.

“I don’t really think I’ve been at my best so far, and I’ve had a good few chances to score which I’ve missed.

“What I want to get out of my time here is to perform well, and as often as possible, to help the team, and hopefully get myself a good few goals.

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley states that his side need to learn their lessons from Monday’s defeat to Farsley Celtic.

Fresh from Saturday’s buoyant victory 2-1 victory over Kidderminster Harriers, the Yellows suffered a heartbreaking loss in the final minutes of the game to end their two-game home winning streak.

While the result was a tough one to take, Beesley asserts that his side could take positives from the performance into this weekend’s clash against Needham Market.

“[Monday’s] result was tough to take because we had played some good football. It just came down to a couple of individual mistakes which decided the game.

In terms of play, on the whole, I thought that we did really well to limit them to only a handful of chances.

“We controlled the game well, played some excellent football at times and created some good opportunities.

“We’ve just got to move past Monday’s result and get back to doing the right things – we’ve got to keep believing in what we’re doing and keep working towards more positive results.

“We worked hard in training on Thursday to get some things out of our system ahead of the next game, so we’ll hopefully see a better outcome come 5 o’clock on Saturday.”
