Warrington Town have signed former Wigan Athletic midfielder Harry McHugh.
The 23-year-old was a free agent after leaving Macclesfield in the summer, and links up with Paul Carden’s squad ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup tie away at Marine.
McHugh made 33 appearances for the Latics after coming through their academy, and made the move to the National League North Silkmen earlier this year.
He has previously had loan spells in the National League North with Chester and in the Scottish Championship with Ayr United.
On the move, Carden said: "Harry is someone I’ve known a long time. I know his family really well: funnily enough, his dad used to play for my dad in Sunday League!
"He was highly thought of at Wigan but a few injuries have set him back from where he was expected to go.
"He was in at Halifax in the summer and they had an embargo which prevented it happening when it was supposed to happen, and he’s just been unfortunate to the point where he’s not been able to get a club, and as players find it when they’re out of contract, it can be difficult and hard to get fixed up at the level you want to get to.
"The fact he’s come in this week he’s wanted to train and said all the right things about wanting to play and how he wants to get a run and enjoy his football to try and get back to a level where his ability could lie, it would be stupid of us not to try and work something out which we have done, and its a real good signing for us.
"He’s a creative midfielder, he’ll make things happen. He’s got really good feet and touch and awareness.
"Technically he's very good, and he’ll give us an additional option to like what Reece Daly is. He can also play a deeper role, where he’ll be a deep-lying creator.
"He’s a really good footballer, very good with the ball, and I'm sure he’ll add a lot of quality.”
