Squad update: Friday 7 August

Paul Carden has added experienced left-back Josh Doherty and a number of youngsters to his squad ahead of Saturday’s season opener at Guiseley.

Doherty, 30, is a Northern Premier League winner with South Shields and earlier in his career played in the Football League for Watford, Crawley Town, Colchester United and Barnet.

A former Northern Irish youth international, Doherty comes in following the recent departure of Jack Doyle to Marine.

Meanwhile, as revealed at the season launch earlier this week, Carden has signed winger Rio Hawkins.

The 18-year-old has been playing for the Steven Gerrard Academy and featured as a trialist in the pre-season game at Marine.

Reuben Denton, part of the club’s successful Under 21s side, has been joined by 17-year-old midfielder Harris McIntosh, another product of the club’s youth pathway.

Another player who has featured as a trialist in pre-season is left back Zayn Sadiq, who left Port Vale at the end of his scholarship in the summer. The 19-year-old is an ex team-mate of former Yellows loanee Liam Brazier, and has spent time on loan in the NPL with Kidsgrove Athletic.

Midfielder Jordan Scanlon has been allowed to explore options elsewhere.
