Preview: South Liverpool (H)

Warrington Town welcome South Liverpool to The GXO Stadium on Saturday in the FA Cup second round qualifying (3pm kick-off).

The Yellows booked their place at this stage of the competition after beating Shildon 4-0 in a first round qualifying replay, following their 2-2 draw in Durham.

However, they will be keen to right some wrongs after their most recent outing, which saw them lose 4-1 away at FC United of Manchester last weekend.

The winner of tomorrow's clash will go in the hat for third round qualifying, with ties set to be played on Saturday 3 October.

Below, we've compiled everything you need to know ahead of the fixture.

Paul Carden preview

Manager Paul Carden is hoping that a short break and a change in competitions can help his side learn from last weekend's defeat, ahead of their latest FA Cup outing.

The Yellows suffered a 4-1 loss away at FC United of Manchester, as former players Matty Grivosti and Niall Watson found themselves on the scoresheet to earn the Reds their first league victory of the season.

With no midweek fixtures for the first time this campaign, Carden believes that a respite from league action will give his squad the time to rest and reflect as they look to progress into the third qualifying round of the FA Cup for the first time since 2019.

"In previous weeks, we’ve had a handful of players who, at the toss of a coin, could be picked for Man of the Match, but at the weekend we didn’t have any of that," Carden said following last weekend's defeat at Broadhurst Park.

"Once we got a goal back, we had a spell where I thought that we were on top.

"We were pushing and probing, getting ourselves into good areas, but we were vulnerable on the counter-attack and inevitably got punished.

"We’ve had our first week with no midweek fixture since the start of the season, and the timing couldn’t be better with a few players carrying knocks.

"That wasn’t why we lost on Saturday, but it was evident in our play.

"Take nothing away from FC United: they deserved to win the game, but it was a bad day all around for us.

"With a short break from league action, it gives us a chance to reflect on the start we’ve made, including on Saturday, because I thought that it was so far off from how we’ve been so far this season.

"But looking ahead to the FA Cup fixture against South Liverpool, it doesn’t matter who we play or what level they’re at, the main thing is that we want to go as far as we can in this competition, and they will want to go as far as they can too.

"On the back of Saturday’s result, they might be looking forward to facing us that little bit more.

"We can’t put the result behind us. We have to move on from it, but we have to learn from it, and we’ve been doing that in the build-up to the game.

"Hopefully the lads have learned from it and can be better in the situations that cost us last weekend."
