Joe Rodwell-Grant completes permanent move to Yellows

Warrington Town are pleased to announce the permanent return of forward Joe Rodwell-Grant.

Rodwell-Grant, 23, played for the club in the National League North and returned on loan last season from Curzon Ashton, before injury cut short his spell following his goal in the win away at Lancaster City.

A product of the Preston North End academy, he made his professional debut for them in 2021 and went on to join Wigan Athletic.

He found a home on the right wing towards the end of his first spell at Cantilever Park, and his form earned him a deal to stay in the National League North.

Manager Paul Carden said: “When he left and went to Curzon, he obviously couldn’t turn that down - he was staying in the Conference North and it was an attractive deal.

“It didn’t work out for him and he found himself on the sidelines, so he called me up and said he wanted to come back on loan.

“I thought he had a good spell on loan for us last season, and it was disappointing when he took a knock when he did. He looks trim and lean -he looks like he means business, and that’s what we want from Joe.

“There’s a lot of potential in Joe still - he’s relatively young, but he’s not a baby and it’s time for him to start realising his potential and we need to work with him to do so.

“He’s got pace to burn and loads of strength - we need to improve his decision-making and he knows that, but the attributes are there.

“We all know he’s a top lad, and that’s massive in any level of football. He’s come back and trained really well in pre-season, and if we can polish him up a bit, we’ll have a dangerous player in this division.”

Rodwell-Grant’s 59 appearances for the club so far is only bettered in the current squad by Evan Gumbs (196) and Josh Amis (222).

He said: “I’m buzzing to get it sorted and I’m ready to crack on. Everyone connected to the club and the lads have been great with me.

"Cards has shown his trust in me, and that’s one of the main reasons I’ve come back. I know I want to give it 100% every time I’m on the pitch and do my best.

“The standard in training has been really good, and I’m looking forward to the games getting started. It’s really important for us to get off on a strong foot and that starts in pre-season.”
